Description

Chikurin-in Gumpo-en

Location: Yoshino, Nara Prefecture

Attention: Chikurin-in Gumpo-en is not in Nara. It is a 2 hour train ride from Nara to Yoshino where Chikurin-in Gumpo-en is located. Welcome to Chikurin-in Gumpo-en. This Traditional Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below) was originally a Buddhist Temple called Tsubakiyama Temple. The temple was built by Shotoku Taishi (a very famous Crown Prince of Japan who reigned from 592 - 628 AD) and the temple used to accommodate Buddhist Monks who practiced asceticism in the mountains of Yoshino. Today, Chikurin-in Gumpo-en is a traditional ryokan and it has hosted famous Japanese artists and writers and even the former Emperor of Japan, Hirohito. The ryokan has 55 Japanese-style guest rooms, and most of the guest rooms have their own private bath and toilet (some of the guest rooms do not have private baths or toilets). Chikurin-in Gumpo-en is also surrounded by a very large and gorgeous Japanese garden (33,000 square meters). Traditional Japanese cuisine is served including fresh local vegetables and fish from the nearby Yoshino RIver. Check-in time is after 3:00pm and check-out time is before 10:00am. Parking is available.
