Description

Asunaro

Location: Takayama, Gifu Prefecture

Welcome to Asunaro. This Modern Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below) is conveniently located near Takayama's famous Miyagawa morning market. Originally a wealthy farmer's house, Asunaro is over 150 years old. In the lobby, guests are served coffee while gathered around the original farmhouse hearth. There are a total of 19 Japanese-style guest rooms at Asunaro, 5 of which have their own Japanese style "irori" (hearth) similar to the one in the lobby. Asunaro has indoor rock baths for both women and men, and in the women's bath guests can try the ryokan's own homemade skin softeners. All meals are taken the privacy of the guest rooms, and Hida beef and fresh Takayama-style seasonal dishes are served for dinner. Guests can leave their luggage at Asunaro prior to check-in (after 14:30) and after checking out (before 10:00). English is spoken.
