Description

Rankyokan Ryokan Honkan

Location: Arashiyama (Outside of Kyoto - a 25 minute taxi ride to Arashiyama from JR Kyoto train station or 5 minutes from JR Saga Arashiyama train station)

Welcome to Rankyokan Ryokan, a Traditional Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below). Located in picturesque Arashiyama in northwest Kyoto, Rankyokan Ryokan is actually 2 separate ryokans in different locations. One of the ryokans at Rankyokan Ryokan is called the “Honkan” (main building) and is located in the Ohi River valley which has been favored by Japanese aristocrats since the 8th century for its natural beauty. This ryokan also has natural hot spring baths (onsen) to help you relax after a day of sightseeing. To get to the Honkan you will need to take the ryokan's private boat pick up service which departs just in front of the “Bekkan” and is free of charge for guests. The last boat leaves at 18:45 (6:45 pm) in the evening. This early departure will give you time to relax and experience the luxury of a Japanese hot spring and river valley, and leave behind the noise and bother of city life. The other building at Rankyokan Ryokan is called the “Bekkan” and it is located just over the Togetsukyo Bridge where a few scenes from "The Tale of Genji" were set. This ryokan has easier access though it does not have a hot spring. Check-in time is after 16:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am.

For Guests staying at the Honkan
Rankyokan provides a private boat pick up service for the guests who stay at the Honkan. The boats depart from the Bekkan and are a free service for guests at the ryokan. The last boat departs from the Bekkan at 18:45. If you miss the last boat you can either call the ryokan and they will pick you up by car or walk. The walk is very dark and we do not recommend doing it at night through it is beautiful during the day. Please be careful.
