Bunzan

Location: Takaragawa Onsen (Takaragawa Hot Spring), Gunma Prefecture

Welcome to Bunzan. This ryokan is on the same property as Osenkaku, and it is usually closed during the weekday but open on weekends. There are 13 Japanese-style rooms in this Luxurious Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below) and each room has its own private bath and toilet. There are shared indoor hot spring baths for both women and men, and there are also four wonderful outdoor hot spring baths for the guests. Fresh, seasonal cuisine is served at Bunzan. Check-in time is after 15:00 and check-out time is before 10:00am. Warning: This is a Non-Smoking ryokan except in designated areas, and unfortunately children and single travelers are not allowed to stay at this ryokan. Warning: Please bring enough cash before you get on the train and go to Bunzan. There are very few ATMs in this area.

Directions: It is a 2 hour and 15 minute ride from JR Ueno train station to JR Minakami train station. Winter Bus Schedule (December 10, 2005 to March 31, 2006): From JR Ueno train station in Tokyo take the train to JR Minakami train station (on the Joetsu Rail Line). There is a bus which will take you directly to Takaragawa Onsen. The bus leaves JR Minakami train station at 14:25. If you cannot make this bus there is another route. Take the Kanetsu Kotsu Bus (bound for Yunokoya) at JR Minakami train station, and this bus will take you to Takaragawa Iriguchi Bus Stop. It is a 30 minute bus ride. At Takaragawa Iriguchi Bus Stop, please take the yellow shuttle bus to Takaragawa Onsen (only a 3 minute bus ride). Check-in time at Bunzan is after 15:00 so please take the Kanetsu Kotsu Bus leaving from JR Minakami train station at one of the following times: 15:47, 16:25.
