Welcome to Kinokuniya Honkan. There are 2 main accommodation areas in this building complex - Kinokuniya Honkan (original building) and Kinokuniya Bekkan (annex). Kinokuniya Honkan is a Modern Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below) and it first opened for business in 1715, during the Edo Period. Kinokuniya Honkan has been patronized by many distinguished visitors, including President Ulysses S. Grant of the United States. There are 10, 14, and 16 tatami mat Japanese-style guest rooms at the ryokan, and there are a total of 15 large and small shared hot spring baths throughout the premises (same gender only). Kinokuniya Honkan also has "family baths" which means that if no one is using a particular hot spring bath a family can hang up a sign outside the bath and bathe privately. For those interested in Japanese history, there are many historical art works and manuscripts on display. Kinokuniya Honkan serves fresh, seasonal Japanese-style cuisine throughout the year. Check-in time is after 14:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am. Parking is available. Important Travel Warning: It takes a long time to go through customs at Narita International Airport and then travel to Hakone. If your plane lands in the early morning at Narita International Airport, you can make it to a Hakone ryokan in time for dinner. However, if your plane arrives after 10:00 am you WILL NOT be able to make it in time for dinner. You should stay at least 1 night in Tokyo and then go to Hakone the next day.
