Oita Prefecture is located in Kyushu with its coastline facing the Seto Inland Sea. It has a warm, sub-tropical climate, and is home to Beppu, a city famous for its thousands of hot springs. In fact, Beppu is known as the hot spring capital of Japan, and it has more hot spring water than anywhere else in the country. It is also a bustling passenger port, with ferries that travel to different spots in Japan via the Inland Sea. The mountain village of Yufuin, west of Beppu, is another spot famous for its hot spring resorts. And Mount Hachiman is the host of a popular music festival and charity event, Music on the Rock, featuring many international groups that perform in the natural mountain surroundings.
